In the San Ramon Valley in Contra Costa County in California lies the town of Danville.  In 2010 the population was 42,000.  The town of Danville is a suburb of Oakland and San Francisco, and is one of the wealthiest towns in the area.  It is known througout the nation for expensive real estate and exclusive country clubs.

The city of San Ramon to the South, Alamo and Diablo reside on the north of the town, and Pleasanton is south.    According the the US Census Bureau, the town of Danville sits on land totaling 18.1 square miles.  There is no water bodies  in the area, it is strictly land, although the Sycamore Creek drains through Mount Diablo and flows through Danville.  Mount Diablo is a great backdrop to Danville and the surrounding cities.  Many locals enjoy the beauty of this mountain and enjoy the Diablo Range on the east of the town and the Las Trampas Ridge on the west.

The town of Danville California is home to many business including the large headquarters of Aviva Energy Corporation.  There are also many banks, investment firms and realtors in the area.

One thing that is unique to Danville California is every Saturday, Danville hosts a farmer’s market.  There are variety of goods including freshly grown vegetables and fruits as well as a variety of goods.  There are also many entertainers who also go to the market to show off their talents.  The Farmer’s Market is very unique and make living in Danville California a cultural and unique place to live.

The town is also known for it’s seasonal events, of which they have many unique things to see and do.  Every year there is the Danville International Children’s Film Festival of which they have featured guests.  The Devil Mountain 5K/10K run is also held every year and a main attraction to the area.  On the Fourth of July, a parade drawing as many as 11,000 people is held in downtown Danville.  Every Thursday in downtown Danville in the months of July and August, there’s an event called, “Hot August Nights.”  This event shows off hundreds of vintage automobiles along with live music.  This is a fun event for the whole family and makes the summer nights more cultured.  Toward the end of October, the Fall Arts Festival involves high quality art that is displayed by local craftspeople and artists, as well as many other featured artists.  Also, going along with the small town feel, every Christmas there is a town Christmas Tree lighting.

In the Danville California area, there are 2 main public high schools.  They are Monte Vista High School and San Ramon Valley High School.  There is also a private school called the Athenian School, which is a school for upper ages, such as grades 6 through 12 that is in the foothills of Mount Diablo State Park.   St. Isidore’s School and San Ramon Valley Christian Academy are also religious private schools in the area.  In the California ranking system, the education of the private schools are top notch.  It is shown that 98% of the graduates go on to attend colleges and technical schools.

In the media, the town of Danville is featured in  popular culture.  Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) lives in the town, as well as many athletes such as Nate Schierholtz and Randy Winn from the San Francisco Giants.  Featured in the movie, “Mrs. Doubtfire,” the family goes out to dinner at the fancy restaurant “Bridges” which is a restaurant in downtown Danville.
